The making of...
orsin 'play'

storyline

orsin makes beautiful crochet jewellery and this particular item is entitled play. As we were brainstorming we thought about what playing meant and soon arrived at the conclusion that it is an interaction between two or more parties (even if a child plays by itself it still takes on different roles). Playing together is also reacting; one acts in a particular way and the others counters. I liked the idea of transformation as a form of reaction and had a lot of fun thinking of ways one could transform itself as a way of playing.

In short this animation is about playing, transforming as a form of interaction and a willingness to go along with the play theme of the other. Ultimately it is about friendship.

art direction

This was going to be another black and white theme so movement, shape and form were very important.

The look and feel is monochrome and therefore form is even more important. Anything looks good in colour. Black and white shows up any flaws straight away.

All assets were created in Adobe Illustrator except for the ball which was created as a shape layer in AfterEffects.

Everything was animated in AfterEffects in 2D. Movements were, as usual carefully orchestrated to move along to the delightful track Lifestreaming by La Cigale (premiumbeat.com). The music was chosen to add a playful, enthusiastic vibe and carries the animation from beginning to close.

Hope you've enjoyed it.
