The making of...
orsin 'and up and down'
storyline
One of orsin's first crochet jewellery objects is the 'and up and down ring'. One could wear this ring as a reminder that after every up there is a down, take solace when one is in the dips or learn to accept that life is movement and ever-moving.
We wanted to make the viewer really feel the up and down movement and decided on a rolling ball that goes on a journey. After rolling it becomes a ship sailing over every higher climbing waves until eventually rolling up into a ball again as it slows down.
Ultimately this short is about life, the constant undulating journey and the acceptance that after every up there is a down.
art direction
We very quickly decided on black and white. orsin is about the beauty of form, the dance between inner beauty and stark reality.
Form is very important when animating in black and white and the undulating line was particularly important. Not too perfect because the road of life also isn't yet perfect enough to make for smooth passage.
All assets were created in AfterEffects except and concepted in Illustrator.
Everything was animated in AfterEffects in 2D. As I started to move the ball along the path I didn't get the feeling of real movement and therefore started to animate the path as well. That really made the whole thing come together. One really gets a sense of moving up and down. The powerful track
